PHILIPPINE ASSOCIATION OF ENTOMOLOGISTS, INC.
Who we are
The Philippine Association of Entomologists, Inc. (PAE) is a non-stock corporation registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission since 1968. It was founded in 1962 by the Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Department of Entomology, men and women, who had become the pillars of Entomology in the country. To date, PAE is composed of about a thousand local and foreign members involved in Entomological science from the academe, research institutions, agrochemical companies, government bureaucracy, pest control business, and other entrepreneurial undertakings.
Our Objectives
The objectives of the Association are embodied in the Preamble of the 1968 Constitution and the Amendment of its Articles of Incorporation in 2010. These are:
- to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and a vehicle of communication;
- to encourage, promote, and enhance research, instruction, and extension in Entomology and its related fields on crop, animal, human and urban health, and pest management;
- to foster cooperation among members;
- to promote understanding and recognition of the science among the various governmental, business and professional circles in the Philippines and abroad;
- to form an effective group that will act for the general well-being of the profession;
- to extend grants or endowments to support its goals or raising funds to accomplish educational, scientific, and social welfare or other similar objectives.
Living up to our Objectives
- PAE has been publishing The Philippine Entomologist, an ISI-refereed journal, since 1968, primarily for its members to publish in but is open to all entomological authors. The journal contains articles on pioneering works and research in Entomology in the country and breakthroughs in insect pest management. It maintains exchanges with foreign entomological journals. Copies of the journal are given free to State Universities and Colleges. In the last five years, the journal has gone digital. It is registered with the National Library of the Philippines and has its unique ISBN and e-ISBN number;
- PAE serves as one of the partners of the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) in its training programs. The association provides high calibre resource persons on the different subject areas covered. The Trainings before the pandemic were offered face-to-face in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Since 2020, however, the trainings as well as the Symposium for pesticide and fertilizer handlers of FPA are offered online;
- To further promote and enhance the understanding and recognition of Entomological science, PAE holds the Annual Scientific Conference a venue for oral and poster presentations of entomological research, the PAE Forum for the staff and students of the different universities and colleges that offer Agriculture curriculum in the country;
- PAE is also actively involved in the conduct of the Plant Doctors on Wheel (PDOW), an extension project of the Pest Management Council of the Philippines, an umbrella organization, where PAE is one of the member societies. It is one of PAE’s ways of reaching out to the agricultural users of entomological knowledge and technology. PAE members are actively involved in farmers’ fora and the development of information and educational materials for farmers’ use
- PAE establishes links with the private sector on the entomological aspect of product development and by providing technical support. It offers thesis writing grants to undergraduate students who are Entomology or Crop Protection majors.
The Association has just celebrated its diamond jubilee in 2022. Not resting on its laurels, PAE’s strong membership vows to support the objectives for which the Association was founded in the years ahead.
